Contagion: A Virulent Strain of Film

Released on September 9th, Contagion is a stark look at the modern world faced with more than just the threat of an unstoppable virus. Steven Soderbergh's vision is bleak, harrowing, and thought provoking, leaving you wondering what you would do if faced with the same decisions and dangers. It even makes you a little less comfortable with the convenience of public transportation, especially buses.

Contagion is peppered with an international cast of acting veterans from beginning to end. Gwenyth Paltrow stars as patient zero (Beth Emhoff), alongside Matt Damon who plays her husband Mitch Emhoff. Laurence Fishburne plays Dr. Cheever, a CDC (Center for Disease Control) head, leading the charge to track-down and stop the spread of an unknown disease. Jude Law leads the charge against big government, as Alan Krumwiede, a self styled Internet reporter / conspiracist. Kate Winslet, Marion Cottilard, Elliott Gould, Monique Gabriela Curnen, Josie Ho, and many more familiar faces fill-out this cast of infectees and survivors.
Contagion is a thrilling and frightful, set in cities all over the world. Several shots of barren San Francisco, Beijing, London, Chicago, and many more streets and airports found their way into the film. Seeing these places empty, laden with bodies, and more trash than you can imagine is a truly humbling experience. You will definitely consider picking up a few bottles of hand sanitizer after seeing this one.
