Magic the Gathering's Conspiracy set blue cards

Conspiracy Set Review Blue Cards

Alright I'm back with part two of the reviews. Blue has me so fired up to draft this set. Take all the value foils! Some of the best uncommon blue cards are in this set. Just Cube, Commander, and Legacy staples for days. Okay enough hype, time to review cards.

Academy Elite – 3U – Creature – Human Wizard – R – Academy Elite enters the battlefield with X +1/+1 counters on it, where X is the number of instant and sorcery cards in all graveyards. 2U, remove a +1/+1 counter from Academy Elite: Draw a card, then discard a card. 0/0. This might be a card that makes Runechanter's Pike more popular in Commander. I totally see this finding a home in that format. Still, it's going to be a cheap card as the cost means you can't abuse the draw effect. Wait isn't there a card that makes activated abilities of creatures cost 2 less. Yes, Training Grounds... Okay I can see this getting broken in Commander.

Aether Tradewinds – 2U – Instant – C – Return target permanent you control and target permanent you don't control to their owner's hands. In Zendikar Limited this was a nuts card as you would bounce a land of yours, and their creature, then you could hit you landfall trigger next turn. This is going to be just as good this time around to abuse enters the battlefield abilities and bounce blockers.

Air Servant – 4U – Creature – Elemental – U – Flying. 2U: tap target creature with flying. 4/3. This wins games in Limited. As you tap down there fliers at the end of there main phase one then bash face during your turn. So much win on this card.

Brainstorm – U – Draw three cards, the put two cards from your hand on top of your library. This is $2 each for the non-foils and I'm willing to be that foils are going to be $20 each in short order. Rule one of this draft format, never pass a foil Brainstorm. After all the card is so epic. Dodge discard effects by hiding your best card on top of your library. Digs three cards deeper when you need to. Also if you have a shuffle effect you can turn this into a true draw three effect.

Breakthrough – XU – Sorcery – U – Draw four cards, then choose X cards in your hands and discard the rest. Woot! The dream of a 100% foil dredge deck is coming true. Plus I love the new art for this card. I just wish we had more of a self mill theme in the set.

Compulsive Research – 2U – Sorcery – C – Target player draws three cards. Then that player discards two cards unless he or she discards a land card. Honestly were is the self mill deck in this set? We have two great Limited dredge enablers back to back. Still, this is an epic draw spell for Limited. Blue's power is just so deep.

Crookclaw Transmuter – 3U – Creature – Bird Wizard – C – Flash, flying. When Crookclaw Transmuter enters the battlefield, switch target creature's power and toughness until end of turn. 3/1. Kills 0/X walls all day long, and isn't that bad of a combat trick. I'll Draft that in a Blue deck.

Dream Fracture – 1UU – Instant – C – Counter target spell. Its controller draws a card. Draw a card. This card is much more friendly to your opponent than Cancel. Also it let's you draw a card. So I have to say this is cooler in Draft and Commander.

Enclave Elite – 2U – Creature – Merfolk Soldier – C – Multikicker 1U. Islandwalk. Enclave Elite enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it for each time it was kicked. If you are drafting Blue you have to take this card. Heck, with how good blue is you take this card just to splash blue into the deck and hate out the other blue players. Getting a 3/3 Islandwalk creature for 3UU is very, very good in a format were everyone is going to be drafting blue cards for either the play value or money value.

Fact or Fiction – 3U – Instant – U – Reveal the top five cards of your library. An opponent separates those cards into two plies. Put one pile into you hand and the other into your graveyard. The non-foils are at $2 each but I expect the foils to be up there in price. I wish this card was Standard legal again. As it stands I'll take this all the time in Cube Draft. The true skill tester of any player is how to breakup FoF piles.

Favorable Winds – 1U – Enchantment – U – Creatures you control with flying get +1/+1. Another bomb enchantment that comes into this set from Innistrad block. If you are in U/W and go turn one Pilgrim, turn two Virtue, turn there this and another Pilgrim you are so looking to win. At that point they just never want to kill the pilgrims unless you start building an army of 3/3 vigilant fliers. This is just totally awesome when you have drafted all the spirit token makers you can.

Grixis Illusionist – U – Creature – Human Wizard – C – tap: target land you control becomes the basic land type of your choice until end of turn. 1/1. Basically this is just some zany mana fixing for Draft decks that need it. That is all. Honestly any one that needs to play this card in their deck is just asking for you to kill it with removal.

Jetting Glasskite – 4UU- Creature – Spirit – U – Flying. Whenever Jetting Glasskite becomes the target of a spell or ability for the first time in a turn, counter that spell or ability. 4/4. That's a finisher bomb for blue right there. This needing two things just to do anything to it, is awesome as it depletes your opponent's resources which gets you father ahead. I really want to be in blue when I draft this set.

Marchesa's Emissary – 3U – Creature – Human Rogue – C – Hexproof. Dethrone (Whenever this creature attacks the player with the most life or tied for most life, put a +1/+1 counter on it.) 2/2. Ahh, Dethrone has to be the coolest ability that has come out for multiplayer. So many times you get one player that just seems to get picked on by the others. Now with Dethrone we can see some cool Commander decks built that are more fun as they are meant to take out the game leader and not pray on the weakest player at the table.

Mechesa's Infiltrator – 2U – Creature – Human Rogue – U – Dethrone. Whenever Marchesa's Infiltrator deals combat damage to a player, draw a card. 1/1. I so want to build a deck that is just nothing but creatures with this effect, plus an unblockable effect, and bounce spells. Just a total dink move deck. Still I love this in Draft as it is a creature that will grow every turn as you send it after the current life point leader and hopefully you will be able to get it to a good size in a few turns so you have this nice 5/5 that draws you cards.

Minamo Scrollkeeper – 1U – Creature – Human Wizard – C – Defender. Your maximum hand size is increased by one. 2/3. In Draft you are going to need an effect that will let you keep all those extra cards you've been drawing off of Infiltrators. This does that job.

Misdirection – 3UU – Instant – R – You may exile a blue card from your hand rather than pay Misdirection's mana cost. Change the target of target spell with a single target. Fifteen dollar reprint that is total a Limited blowout, yeah, I'm going to draft this. Funny thing is that you can use it to totally steal the Brainstorm against other blue mages.

Muzzio, Visionary Architect – 1UU – Legendary Creature – Human Artificer – M – 3U, tap: Look at the top X cards of your library, where X is the highest converted mana cost among artifacts you control. You may reveal an artifact card from among them and put it onto the battlefield. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in any order. 1/3. Currently fetching a $10 price tag this seems to have a home lined up for it in Commander. The ability to basically sudo-tinker an artifact into play every turn is going to be awesome in both Limited and Commander.

Plated Seastrider – UU – Creature – Beast – C – ¼. Sometimes you just need a ¼ for two mana in Limited.

Plea for Power – 3U – Sorcery – R – Will of the Council – Starting with you, each player votes for time of knowledge. If time gets more votes, take an extra turn after this one. If knowledge gets more votes or the vote is tied, draw three cards. Just like Fact or Fiction this card is broken and we would never get to play with it in Standard. An extra turn for four mana is nuts and drawing three cards is also nuts. Also this card is fetching $3 a piece, just saying.

Reckless Scholar – 2U – Creature – Human Wizard – C – Tap: target player draws a card, then discards a card. 2/1. One thing I learned about Limited is that looting effects are good. Honestly I want to just force blue in every draft of this set for life. Sure as a creature this isn't that great but its role in the over-all deck is very big.

Screaming Seahawk – 4U – Creature – Bird – C – Flying. When Screaming Seahawk enters the battlefield, you may search your library for a card named Screaming Seahawk, reveal it, and put it into your hand. If you do, shuffle your library. 2/2. This was the beta version of Squadron Hawk... still, this effect is going to be nuts in draft as you should be able to pick two or more copies of this. Cool thing is that you can cast it after you cast Brainstorm to shuffle away unwanted cards.

Shoreline Ranger – 5U – Creature – Bird Soldier – C – Flying. Islandcycling 2. ¾. Just some mana fixing for Limited here, nothing more to see.

Split Decision – 1U – Instant – U – Will of the Council – Choose target instant of sorcery spell. Starting with you, each player votes for denial or duplication. If denial gets more votes, counter the spell. If duplication gets more votes or the vote is tied, copy the spell. You may choose new targets for the copy. Okay, so this is happening. Two mana counter spell that could become a twincast... yeah, we are never going to see this in Standard. Yeah. It's a great card. I expect this to rise up as a Commander staple card into being worth $5+ in the next year or two.

Stasis Cell – 4U – Enchantment – Aura – C – Enchant creature. Enchanted creature doesn't untap during its controller's untap set. 3U: Attach Stasis Cell to target creature. I like that this basically gets to never be destroyed if you can pay to move it. Also the fact that you can move it later to a bigger threat is very cool.

Stifle – U – Instant – R – Counter target activated or triggered ability. (Mana abilities can't be targetted.) The chase rare of the set that is already going for $25 non-foil. Just a windmill slam keep card out of this set. This is so going in my cube when I get one. The fact that you can just turn off any activated or triggered ability is just awesome sauce. You opponent goes to ultimate their planeswalker and you just stifle the ability, They attack you with Emrakul and you say no to the annihilation of six of your things. There is a reason this is $25 each.

Traveler's Cloak – 2U – Enchantment – Aura – C – Enchant creature. As Traveler's Cloak enters the battlefield, choose a land type. When Traveler's Cloak enters the battlefield, draw a card. Enchanted creature has landwalk of the chosen type. One of the best politic cards in the set. Just throw this on one of your opponents fatties and let them kill everyone as they save you for last. Or you can just put it on one of your own dudes and go to town.

Turn the Tide – 1U – Instant – C – Creatures your opponent control get -2/-0 until end of turn. I like this in the multiplayer draft format because you can use it to save an ally or your self. It's just a good combat trick in 3+ player games.

Wind Dancer – 1U – Creature – Faerie – U – Flying. Tap: Target creature gains flying until end of turn. 1/1. Just a good card for Limited as you can use it to jump another creature into the air and bash for the win.

Well, overall I have to say blue looks to be the best color in this set. I totally feel safe drafting U every time I crack a Conspiracy pack. Alright time to look at the black cards.
