The Dow Center in Saginaw was rocking this week with a sold out show featuring Shinedown and Three Days Grace. This is the 2nd leg of the U.S. tour, this time stopping in smaller cities. Saginaw doesn't get too many big rock shows like this, and it was filled with fans of all ages. This week, Michigan got treated to two shows, with the other being the following night in Battle Creek. The supporting act for this tour is nu metal heavy hitters P.O.D. (Payable on Death). Shinedown and Three Days Grace have been co-headlining this tour, but recently there has been some stormy seas.
P.O.D. opened the show and killed it as usual. These guys have been a favorite of mine ever since their arrival 20 years ago. They just released a new album entitledMurdered Love, and have been steady touring, playing opening slots for Daughtry, recently in Detroit, and now on this tour. These Californians seemed a bit chilly on stage, with hoodies up, winter hats and singer Sonny Sandoval's socks pulled up high. But they warmed up quickly and so did the crowd. Their set was a quick 7 songs, filled with a few of their classic hits and a few new songs. People started crowd surfing on "Youth Of The Nation". Sonny even thanked the crowd surfers for doing so. Closing out the set with a little sample of Sublime's big hit, "Lovin' Is What I Got" as everyone sang along.
Next up was Three Days Grace. Everyone was curious to see how this was going to sound. The band came out on stage and dove into their new hit single "Chalk Outline". The crowd instantly sang along with Walst. He seemed a bit nervous on stage during the first few songs. All the band members were doing some serious eye contact with one another. But it wasn't long til Matt was in the groove, and running around the stage like the Rock Star he is. He even resembles Adam a bit with his fly rock n roll fashion. The stage was a grand set up with killer pyro and amazing lights. These guys are already family so, it maybe an easy transition for them? I wish these guys much success with their next chapter of Rock N Roll adventures!
Shinedown was up next, and of course they stole the hearts of the crowd. These guys always put on a powerful performance. Singer Brent Smith has a stage presence that is unstoppable. He belted out all their hit songs with such ease. All the guys in the band were laughing and smiling, and its great to see a band having fun on stage and enjoying themselves. The crowd roared the loudest with these guys and its no wonder. They are huge right now, and have been constantly touring since March, with the release of their 4th album, Amaryllis.
