There are movies made all the time that take true events and spin them into an n out of control situation taking the viewer into unbelievable directions. Some of them are so strange and disturbing that it gets your brain moving and wondering if it’s something you really want to see. What makes it even more disturbing is when the events actually happened pretty close to what is portrayed on film which is the case in the hard to believe Compliance.
Compliance follows a fast food manager who receives a call from a police officer investigating one of her employees. After being instructed to search her before they arrive, things begin to spiral into strange and disturbing directions. As more and more become involved in this same investigation the manager begins to realize that things may not be as black and white as she thought. As you watch this movie you will find yourself just angry to why these people do the things they do and how unbelievable it is. Sadly, after doing some research it appears that almost everything in this film happened exactly this way. This story is extremely disturbing from a real life situation, but also delves into the human psych and how far one will go into protecting themselves. While the beginning of this movie is strange you don’t have a whole lot of issue buying into it, but as it moves forward it will disturb irritate you. After viewing it and thinking about it more, you take into the self-saving mentality of the world and it becomes more and more believable to some of the off the wall behavior of these people. Clearly there are some that may have already been going that direction and just needed someone to give them a shove, but the few that stand up to the situation still have to struggle with what is real or not. The performances were all great to bring this film to life.
This movie is so out there you will surely find yourself to be bothered in some way. If you just go into it knowing it actually happened it may bother you even more for various reasons, which is why this is such a great movie. A good film should evoke some kind of emotion and this film is guaranteed to do that whether you like it or not.
