For those who like to visit Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in the winter (there is no off season at this place). There is plenty to see and do indoors for those unwilling to venture out into the ice, cold and snow.
To begin with, there is a huge multi-million dollar collection of artwork lining the halls (and for that matter, nearly every nook and cranny). An entire day could be spent just looking at the paintings and sculptures. The hotel provides guided tours from time to time.
At the far end of Chateau Lafayette complex you will discover a 1950’s themed ice cream parlor, an old fashioned street of boutiques, Diamond Lil’s Saloon, The Tavern, Kid’s Game Room and Kid’s Spa just to name a few.
Along with the main lobby, there are also little alcoves where you can just sit and relax or read. There is also a combination coffee shop (featuring Starbucks) and an Oops Store (for all those vital items that you left home without). Convention, meeting rooms and a full size amphitheatre can also be found within the complex.
Visit the Wildside Family Fun Center via shuttle bus where you’ll find an array of fun arcade games, a bowling alley and a restaurant serving a huge array of tasty dishes (my favorite was the French fried sweet potatoes with pepper jack cheese sauce, bacon and crumbled blue cheese…Yummm!).
Also, not to be forgotten, and just across the street from the Chateau is “The Spa”! A day here will add years to your life…I kid you not. Back at the hotel and geared mostly for the men, there is a cigar and bourbon room (the ultimate man cave) that is conveniently next to the hotel’s own cigar store and men’s shop.
Speaking of shopping, there are a slew of little shops to explore, some having one of a kind items found only at the resort. It is a delight just to take a walk through these unique gift emporiums.
Last but not least is the Sundial Ski Lodge which features The Hitching post Saloon (a country themed bar complete with mechanical bull) and a great kitchen (The Hungary Moose Café) where you can get a bite to eat as you watch the skiers depart the top of the mountain. Housed in the same building is a ski shop where you can do…yes…more shopping!
So even if your tolerance to ice is limited to what floats in your water glass, come out to Nemacolin Woodland Resort and explore the great indoors. If you’re looking for a great winter escape and a luxury experience, look no further than Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Farmington, Pennsylvania.
