What could be more fun than to travel into your favorite childhood mystery book with The Doctor? To celebrate the 50th anniversary of “Doctor Who”, Penguin Books UK and Puffin Books are releasing e books each month in 2013 featuring one of the eleven Doctors and written by a famous children’s or young adult’s fiction author. For October, Puffin will be releasing “The Mystery of the Haunted Cottage” by Derek Landy. This installment is a suspenseful and fun adventure highlighting David Tennant’s Tenth Doctor.
The Doctor and Martha Jones find themselves in a very surreal place where no one really notices them at first. After seeing a group of young children Martha realizes that this is one of the books that she read as a child. The book staring ‘The Troubleseekers’ is just like any other ordinary young adult mystery full of picnics, scary woods and the old woman down the lane. The difference here is that if The Doctor and Martha cannot solve the mystery, they are stuck in this book forever.
This story is so much fun it is almost impossible to put down. Derek Landy is a vivid storyteller and fits well in the “Doctor Who” universe. Known for his amazing work with the “Skulduggery Pleasant” book series, his work has won awards including the Bord Gais Energy Irish Book of the Decade, an Irish Book Award for Children’s Book of the Year and the Red House Children’s Book Award.
Throughout the year there have been an amazing array of stories in this eBook series, however “The Mystery of the Haunted Cottage” stands out as one of the very best. The interaction between the Doctor, Martha and the fictional characters at points makes you laugh so hard you cry. The funniest moment of the book is when Martha stops everything to make sure the villain understands how insane they really are.
This new adventure will be available on October 23, 2013, from online retailers such as Amazon. The next adventure in the series for November will highlight Matt Smith’s Doctor. Stay tuned for more updates on this amazing new e-book series from Puffin Books.
