Introduced in January at this year’s International CES in Las Vegas, Cogito Pop was honored with a coveted CES Innovations Design and Engineering Award in the Wireless Handset Accessories category. Beautifully designed and manufactured by CONNECTEDEVICE Ltd., Cogito Pop is a moderately priced, connected watch with a fashionable look and minimalist features.

In other words, you won’t have any apps to download nor will you able to use voice commands for hands free calling. However, Cogito Pop doesn’t require a long term service agreement or daily recharging since it operates with a conventional watch battery expected to last up to three years. CONNECTEDEVICE CEO Henri-Nicholas Oliver said although Cogito Pop “can alert users when they have a call, an email or a message on social media sites” he also said it is “meant to be an extension of the phone, not a duplication of it”.

Cogito Pop combines the traditional, reassuring look of an analog clock face with digital LED notifications with an optional beep alert. With essential contemporary functions such as SMS, email and social media notifications, consumers can enjoy the conveniences of a wearable device at cost designed to reach a much broader market than pricier smartwatches. Cogito Pop is water resistant up to 10 ATM (100 meters or 328 feet) uses a tap to act technology to dismiss notifications and is also capable of performing remote actions to locate the phone and enable a music player or camera.

Setting up the Cogito Pop was a fairly simple three-step process – downloading the free Connected Watch app from either the Apple App Store or Google Play, pairing the device using Bluetooth Smart Technology with a smartphone and then customizing the notification settings. Although most users should get through this process without much trouble, Cogito Watch has a Facebook page featuring a helpful tutorial for iOS and Android platforms.

Compatible with all iOS 7 and Android 4.3 devices, Cogito Pop is available in six gorgeous colors and is available for purchase online. Two preinstalled button cell batteries, a Quick Start Guide and of course, a sturdy watchband are all included in the packaging.

In summary, Cogito Pop is a worthy pick among an ever-growing list of connected watches. It’s beautifully crafted and a more affordable option to expensive smartwatches, some at nearly triple the price coupled with a long-term service agreement. For the purpose of this review, Cogito Pop receives a top ranked five star rating.

Other products from Hong Kong-based CONNECTEDEVICE include the award-winning Cookoo, its first wearable device introduced in 2012 and Cogito Classic, its current top of the line model also introduced at the 2014 International CES.
