For the past 11 years, CLIF Bar has released a few seasonal flavors of their original energy bar. This year, in addition to the spiced pumpkin pie and iced gingerbread flavors, they added pecan pie. Each of these flavors is a unique twist on the usual energy bar flavors.
“The winter season gives us an opportunity to put a holiday twist on our traditional flavors,” said CLIF Bar Brand Director, Dan Hickle. “Like the first snowfall of the year, the arrival of the seasonal CLIF Bar flavors is something that fans tell us they look forward to all year.”
Not only do these flavors generate excitement among CLIF consumers, but the company also donates one percent of the seasonal net sales to Protect Our Winters, a non-for-profit that fights against climate change. So not only can you try a delicious new flavor, but you can pay it forward by helping out a non-profit.
Of each of the flavors, my favorite was the iced gingerbread. The flavor was spot on, even though the texture of the bar is not like a gingerbread cookie. It had a good amount of icing on it which complimented the gingerbread flavor well.
The pecan pie flavor was a little underwhelming. I don't think that the flavor was strong enough, because it just tasted like a plain energy bar to me. I was looking forward to this flavor because pecan pie does have a very distinct taste, but I don't think that taste came through quite enough.
The spiced pumpkin pie had a very strong flavor. I enjoyed the flavor, but ultimately I think it was a little too strong. I didn't want to eat the whole bar in one sitting, because it was just a little too much for me. However, it was better than the pecan pie because I could really taste the "spice".
If you enjoy eating CLIF bars on your adventures, I would definitely suggest trying these flavors out. The packaging is a little different and the flavors are good. It is fun to have a tasty seasonal snack when you are out adventuring in the fall and winter!
