Cleveland Metroparks Zoo hosts Fairytales & Frogs at the Rain Forest (Photos)

It was a great day to be a princess, a prince or a frog. Monday (President’s Day), the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo hosted “Fairytales and Frogs” at the Rain Forest. Princes and Princesses of all ages had the opportunity to meet Prince Charming and Cinderella as well as an entire army, chorus and colony of giant huggable frogs.

There was a “Princess and the Pea” station where children could plant a pea seed in a bio-degradable container (made from recycled newspapers). There were get close “Frog Encounters”, the “Leapin’ Lily Pad” game, Meet the Frog and Chameleon Keepers and storytelling time (The Frog Prince). AM 1260 Radio Disney was on hand to rock the house and get the kids (and adults) up and hopping around. There were even fairytale and frog themed cupcakes and desserts for sale in the snack bar.

Of course, also included in the price of admission was free range of the entire Rain Forest complex where parents and children could learn more about the amphibian world and its relationship to the ecosystem of the rain forest and the important roles that frogs and toads play in our world. What was really nice is that the activity stations were spread out far enough apart (and there were enough of them) that the huge crowd was never squeezed into one place so even with the huge throng of people, there was never a feeling of being overly crowded.

Judging by the smiles of the adults and children, it was a wonderful time for all. It is much to the credit of the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo that they manage to come up with a fun and educational activity to entertain the children and adults on a day off from school and work, not to mention that it was a balmy (and quite delightful) 80˚ inside the Rain Forest where a light shirt was just right (compared to layers of clothing needed once you stepped back outside).

This is one of the many fun family orientated activities that the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo hosts through the year. For information of more upcoming activities, go to http://www.clemetzoo.com/
