Bottled water is everywhere, and is one of the single biggest contributors to landfill waste. Approximately 38 billion plastic water bottles wind up in landfills each year. That's shocking, considering that quality of most bottled waters are equal to or less than that of city tap water, and the addition of fluoride and chlorine to city water supplies affects the taste. How can one get a decent-tasting drink of water without damaging the planet then? Thermos™ thinks it has the answer - the Genuine Thermos Brand Filtration Bottle.
Thermos™ sees this as the next step in the evolution of personal hydration. Previously, you would fill your earth-friendly glass, metal, or BPA-free plastic water bottle, but you needed a filtered source of water first if you wanted palatable water. Thermos™ has eliminated that need by having the filter in the bottle so you can fill and go. Additional design features include:
- Innovative gravity-fed filtration method allows water to pass through the filter
- naturally and not by force, giving water increased contact time with the filter
- NSF/ANSI 53 certified to reduce contaminants such as aesthetic chlorine, bad tastes and odor, chloramine, atrazine and particulate class V
- Filter lasts for approximately 20 gallons or 128 full bottles
- Open spout allows for great flow rate with no forceful sucking or squeezing required
- Made from BPA-free, impact-resistant Eastman Tritan™ copolyester material
- Hygienic, locking push button lid with one-handed operation and integrated carrying loop
All those perks aside, this is one solidly-built water bottle. We dropped it from a height of twenty feet onto the asphalt, and it bounced like a superball with only a few scuff marks; however, if it had landed on the flip-top cap, I’m pretty sure it would have cracked – but it wouldn’t have opened, thanks to the latch lock. This is the water bottle for the hardcore outside enthusiast, or the on-the-go individual. Its bold, strong look comes in clear, blue, smoke, or pink colors, and currently retails for $24.99 at Target.
“Thermos is dedicated to creating quality products for our customers and we’ve undertaken an extensive process to create a filtration bottle that meets the highest industry standards,” said Rick Dias, President, and Chief Operating Officer of Thermos™.
The extensive thought put in the design of the bottle is clear, and the hardiness of the bottle will appeal to anyone who wants to be able to have sweet-tasting water no matter what water source they fill from. Our tests used recently shocked city water and the iron-rich well water of South Jersey; both tasted fresh with no trace of tangy iron or chlorine. Water flow was not restricted like most pop-cap water bottles, and you could really get fast hydration without exhausting your mouth. That may be the only drawback of the Thermos Brand Filtration Bottle; you’ll drink so much that you’ll need to refill it often.
