Tis the season to be thinking about the grad or dad in your life. Generally, both work hard at what they do, and they deserve some recognition for that hard work. One way to do this is with a nifty gift. One gift idea that is pretty darn nifty is the Enhanced Active Noise Cancelling Earphones (#10799) from Monoprice.
Claims from the company of “superb musical reproduction and noise cancellation” are dead-on, and perhaps even a little understated. As far as listening goes, with or without the noise cancellation feature turned on, music, movies, and good old fashioned phone calls sound really good. Turn the noise cancellation on, and everything changes. This feature eliminates things you didn’t even knew existed, like the sound of air and pretty much everything else ambient. Not only that, whatever it is that you happen to be listening to becomes much more crisp, clear, and well defined. This enhanced level of clarity is akin to getting prescription glasses for the first time after years of denial. Sure, you could see some things without them, but you can see every bit of everything with them. It’s like the veil has been lifted from your ears.
As a telephony device, the 10799 provides clear communication in both directions thanks to its well-placed microphone which also features controls for volume, pause/resume playback, and track control on Apple iPod and iPhone devices, though Android devices are limited to pause and resume only. Despite this limitation, neither me or my HTC One will hold it against Monoprice. Tis better to design for Apple than get the pants sued off you, some would say. (ZING!)
The Enhanced Active Noise Cancelling Earphones (#10799) from Monoprice come with a AAA battery that I have yet to kill after leaving the noise cancellation feature on for three days. A good thing to know is that the battery does not need to be installed in order to use these earphones, it is only necessary for noise cancellation.
