Despite the frigid temperatures during opening weekend at Super Bowl Village, a large crowd huddled around the Verizon Stage basking in the radiant sounds of South African trio, Civil Twilight Saturday, January 28th. The two brothers and lifelong friend are no stranger to Indianapolis (they played at both The Rathskellar and The Vollrath).
Declaring that this was the coldest gig they ever played, Steven McKellar and rest of the band took to the stage in frigid 32 degree temperatures (plus wind chill) to a large group of enthusiatic event attendees.
To see them LIVE you get to experience first hand the amazing gift of Steven's voice ... a range that is undeniable, control impressive, and sense of melodic timing that is amazing. Lyrically, the messages in the songs CT brings to the table are not only relevant, but honest, drawing upon feelings and states of being that, for some of us, can be hard to put into words. Add in his brother Andrew's guitar virtuoso skills, (a combination of reckless abandon and intense control), coupled with Richard Wouters' backbone rhythms, you've got the entire package. A perfect balance. Complete.
Often compared musically to U2, Radiohead, and Muse, Civil Twilight debuted one of their new songs, "Fire Escape" which is fast becoming a new favorite of alternative stations around the country. They are best known for their song "Letters from the Sky", and emotional rock ballad that has over 1, 600,000 views on YouTube . It was also used in the movie "I am number 4" . Their equally profound and ethereal song , "Human" was used on a episode of "House" and "Vampire Diaries".
Last year Civil Twilight hit the road, covering most the the country headlining and supporting such acts as Jimmy Eat World, Anberlin, and Florence and the Machine. Signed with New York based Wind-Up Records, the band is poised to release their sophmore album, "Holy Weather", which is set for release on March 27th. Their second single off the new album, "Doorway" MP3 is available for FREE download on their Facebook page just for being on the Civil Twilight email list.
