Montalcino is a small hill town in Tuscany that produces some of Italy’s most sought after wines. Brunello di Montalcino is the wine produced here and commands high prices sue to its exclusivity. Made of 100% Sangiovese grapes, this wine must meet strict guidelines in keeping with its DOCG status. The wine must be aged for at least two years in oak casks and two more in the bottle before it is released.
Ciacci Piccolomini d’Aragona Brunello di Montalcino Pianrosso, 2007 is a Brunello that belongs in your collection. It pours a rich ruby red into the glass. Aromas of red fruit and flowers hit upfront, followed by leather and tar. Red and black fruit start this fruit forward style of Brunello. Leather and earthiness follow all braced by strong tannins and a long finish. This is a big wine and will age gracefully over the next 5-10 years. This is a wine that needs a big thick rib eye; the tannins will cut through the fattiness of the beef and stand up to any char marks.
