Christmas miracles - OLTL in review, December 19 - 23

Best Scene This Week:

When Rex realized that “Stacy” was really Gigi, she began to cry because she still couldn’t remember anything.  The moment was heartwarming and bittersweet as Rex told her that it didn’t matter because he had her back, and that he had dreamed of that day so many times but it always ended.  When Rex kissed Gigi, her memories came flooding back and the couple received a Christmas miracle.  Gigi remembered everything and their family had their life back.

Honorable Mention: Roxy and David walking off of the darkened Fraternity Row set gave One Life to Live viewers a long last glimpse of their own favorite sets.

Eye Roll of the Week:

Again with the chipmunk tattoo?  And it is comforting Viki in a strange made-up language?  (See last week’s review for more notes on David’s character.)

Character of the Week:

John McBain had a lot to think about as he played the good guy all week – sticking by Tea’s side after she was released from the hospital and helping to smooth things over when Dani realized her mother had a bad attitude about Todd.  Tea warned John that time is precious and that he needed to talk to Natalie soon.

When John dropped off presents for Liam at Llanfair, he and Natalie were (surprise, surprise) interrupted by his cell phone.  The caller was Shane; promising new evidence that Jack had killed Gigi, and John once again ran off to be the good cop.

John listened to Shane’s tape and told Neela she would need to sign a statement before he interrupted the Manning family Christmas at La Boulaie to arrest Jack as a suspect in Gigi Morasco’s murder.

(Lest we forget the white-sweater-wearing, tennis-playing frat boy on Monday’s Fraternity Row.  He looked a lot like John McBain.)

Quote of the Week:

"And be very careful, you know, cause they mess those DNA tests up all the time!" - Roxy as Lorraine on Fraternity Row

Questions This Week:

David impregnated someone?  Do we know his child?  Do we know his child’s mother?

What ever happened to Echo and her commitment to getting even with Dorian?

Is Delbert Fina related to Delphina?  Is there another alter ego running around?  Or is their resemblance, as they say, a coincidence?

Why did the customers at the Bonjour seem to be okay with (or not notice) Cutter being gagged as he was waiting to be arrested?  Is that a Texas joke?

Fail of the Week:

Natalie and John’s story has been drawn out long enough to be considered ridiculous.  At first, John believed Natalie lied to him.  Then, when he admitted to Roxy that he still loved Natalie, Natalie only heard the first half of the conversation, assumed John did not love her, and decided to marry Brody.  When it turned out that Brody had lied and Natalie didn’t marry him, Natalie got mad at John for not having the guts to tell her he loved her.  Now they seem to be getting along and have had ample opportunity to talk things out, but John’s work and cell phone get in the way every time.

Once upon a time, there was a blizzard in which Natalie and John were trapped on Llantano Mountain.  Natalie thought John was her dead husband and kissed him.  That was less ridiculous than this drawn out plot of not kissing.

Success(es) of the Week:

There could be nothing more successful in all of soaps this week than Monday’s Fraternity Row episode.  It had mysterious DNA tests, alter egos, hidden twin brothers complete with an “undisclosed location,” baby switches, suspected incest, extramarital affairs, a man returning from the dead after being trapped in a city beneath the city, and many other references to One Life to Live and other soap opera situations.  Not only that but there were some entertaining role reversals as Roxy and Nigel (aka Lorraine and Nigella) became upper crust, influential citizens and Clint and Viki (aka Gregor and Gilda/Matilda) were servants.

When Roxy woke up from her dream, she was still wearing one of Lorraine's earrings.  This was not an episode for reading recaps – it was an episode you have to see to appreciate!

The Christmas miracles at the end of the week brought tears to the eyes as Rex and Gigi were reunited, Clint and Viki worked out their misunderstanding, and Dani found gifts from Victor hidden in the attic.

(If only someone had managed to save Fraternity Row, too.)
