Rising country star Chris Young brought his Liquid Neon tour through Milwaukee's Eagle's Ballroom at The Rave on Jan. 26, 2013. Young was the Season 4 winner of Nashville Star, back in 2006, and has been one of the few reality show victors to gain traction with increasing success. He had his first #1 hit in 2009 and had charted five consecutive #1 singles.
Young took the stage at 9:45 p.m.in front of a packed house and started the show with "Save Water, Drink Beer" from his most recent album, "Neon." He addressed the crowd, "We are going to have us a party in here. Enjoy yourselves, and have a good time!"
Behind Young hung a large backdrop displaying his name with ample lighting. A modest drum riser and keyboard were the sole additional components outside of his backing musicians.
No stranger to Milwaukee, he gave props to local radio station Q106 for helping to build his fan base. "I can't count how many times I've played Potawatomi Casino when I was first getting started," said Young, "There's no way we could have gotten this many people in there...this has always been my dream."
The Saturday night show brought out a lot of Chris Young fans. Most sang loudly during "All I Can Think About Is Getting You Home." Young definitely had a connection with the Milwaukee crowd. Before continuing with "Man I Want to Be" Young said, "This song is is important for a lot of reasons, but probably the most important that we were not going to be a one hit wonder thanks to you guys."
They performed a standard 90-minute set and included all their hits, "Voices," "You" and a finale of "Tomorrow." Young also sang a lackluster version of ZZ Top's "Sharp Dressed Man" that simply didn't have the same grit as the original. That aside, it was the only low-light of the night.
