Chi Dynasty: The Authentic Chinese Food Experience

Sometimes popular believes settle in a way that an assumption can become known as true, when it actually isn’t. Fortune cookies are completely absent in China, yet here in America, we associate them with Chinese restaurants. The fact is that fortune cookies were created in Kyoto, Japan, in the 19th Century and  first introduced in the USA by a Japanese restaurant in San Francisco. It was the Chinese Americans that popularized them to the point we know today, however, real authentic Chinese restaurants do not offer them, and that is one of the ways you know the difference.

I recently dined at the Studio City Chi Dynasty. The restaurant reflects the traditional Chinese décor and ambiance. A distinctive red wall anchors the interior and authentic Chinese latticework partitions divide the booths for an intimate dining experience. The food offered is unlike any regular Chinese restaurant. Although some of their dishes have recognizable names, the taste is different. Their Orange Chicken is made with large chunks of white meat chicken deep fried and coated with sweet and spicy orange peel sauce. For their Steamed Fish Filet, Chi Dynasty’s chef use fresh fish of the day steamed with ginger, scallions, cilantro and soy sauce. Their Mandarin Beef is sliced tender beef stir-fried with black mushrooms and bamboo shoots in a rich brown sauce. Delicious!

Owner Jonathan Chi has built a reputation amongst Angelenos for an unprecedented dining experience since 1983. On its 27th anniversary, Chi Dynasty partnered with Muse Lifestyle Group to open this second location on Studio City’s Ventura Boulevard. The Studio City location has made an impact on the community by hosting a series of family-oriented events such as the Chinese New Year celebration and has become a favorite amongst celebrity clientele. Some of Chi Dynasty’s notable customers include George Clooney, Miley Cyrus, Gwen Stefani, Gavin Rossdale, Steve Carrell and many others.

Chi Dynasty has just celebrated its 28th year serving the Los Angeles community by opening a third location at The Americana at Brand (769 Americana Way, Glendale, CA) on the month of November. Folding glass doors line the parameter of the space, and when open, create a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor seating. The Americana at Brand location also offers a full bar and liquor license, making it a destination spot for dinner and cocktails in Glendale.

“Chi Dynasty has been a hidden gem in the LA dining scene for almost 30 years. We are very pleased to open our third location at The Americana at Brand and share the Chi Dynasty experience with the Glendale community and visitors alike,” says partner Robert Vinokur.

The restaurant stays true to its roots, delivering quality cuisine and top tier customer service while continuing its growth in the LA market.
