A new and hip little eatery with modern decor and reasonable pricing in South Beach? As any good Miamian would say, "What's the catch?" Two hours and three plates of cold food and coffee later, spelled it out pretty loud and clear. Charles St. is simply horrible and possibly mediocre on a good day.
The eatery is located inside the Boulan Hotel at 2000 Collins Ave #7, Miami Beach, FL 33139. The menu seemed promising with items such as Chocolate Chip Buttermilk Pancakes and an ABCLT Sandwich-avocado, bacon, chicken, lettuce, and tomato; however, the delayed food service time and forgetfulness of the staff made this place thoroughly miserable. Even though the restaurant had only a handful of patrons, the server took over ten minutes to take drink orders, and another fifteen minutes to take the food orders, then the wait for food began. After thirty minutes, most diners had the same blank stare that has been seen by those poor wretches stuck in the enormous lines at Disneyworld or Black Friday outside of Best Buy. Patrons who want coffee should forget about it, the coffee took unreasonably long to arrive, almost as an afterthought, and was lukewarm. When the food finally arrived to the table, it too was room temperature.
On the positive side, had the food been warm, the portion sizes were great, and the pancakes were large. But until Charles St. gets an internal makeover from the manager down to the hostess, just stay away from this sub-par eatery.
