The Kingston Cigar Shop in Summerville, South Carolina is one of three shops owned and operated by Kim and Jim. Of the three; this shop would be considered the centrepiece of the franchise.
In business since 1997, Kim and Jim have maintained an environment that Kim describes in not-so-many words as a place where 'a patron can come in, kick back, relax, and let their worries remain behind'. In this aspect this cigar shop is comparable to the late eighties/early nineties 'Cheers' - a place where everybody knows your name.
Much like their Goose Creek operation, some of the finest cigars can be found here: ranging from CAO, Ashton, Montecristo, Partagas to their own House Blend. In addition to the selection of cigars they carry pipes, accessories, and a healthy line of pipe tobacco. Also, as previously cited in the review of the Goose Creek operation: no Alec Bradley. As Kim and Jim explain it, they made a business decision to not carry the Alec Bradley line.
The staff remain ever cordial and exceptionally knowledgable of the cigar trade. Always willing to lend a hand in selecting the 'right' cigar; they are equally as willing to allow you to venture into their spacious well-stocked walk-in humidor to make your own selection.
This store provides the standard flat screen televisions, selection of non-alcoholic beverage, and well appointed seating with tables. The presentation gives the place a hometown 'barbershop' feel. Not terribly upscale; a place where anyone can come in, pull up a chair and enjoy a smoke and discuss whatever may enter their mind.
For the friendly down home atmosphere, the fine selection of cigars and excellent customer service this shop easily rates four stars.
On a side note: when you visit, do not forget to ask about the Opus X football cigar; it's a sight. In case you are wondering: Dan Marino (Miami Dolphins QB #13) was presented with thirteen Opus X football-shaped cigars upon his retirement. In the world, there are reportedly thirty of these special football-shaped cigars (including the thirteen!). As Kim and Jim explained it; Dan Marino gave one to a close friend who frequents the establishment. This friend has asked that Kim and Jim 'hold' it in their humidor where it has remained over the years for their safe-keeping.
