Located in the Northside Highland Shooping Center, Chan's Chinese Restaurant's longevity comes from its quality. In a busy shopping district replete with megamillions fast food places, it is refreshing to have a healthier option. Not all Chinese food is alike in taste. Of the many spots claiming to serve good Chinese food, this restaurant is very popular, especially with Northside residents, a large percentage of whom are African American.

The special lunch menu is offered as either as a combination or a la carte. There are 20 combination choices l and roast pork friend rice or lo mein noodle. The other 12 options which include rice, mixed vegetables, and/or soft noodle. Food appears on the table in minutes, and the portions are quite generous and fresh. The lone waiter is attentive and pleasant in a restaurant that is nearly always full of customers. He asks new diners about their experience with Chinese food and acknowledges regulars. The décor includes a koi fish aquarium and raised sculpture on the walls. Seating includes booths and tables and chairs. The appetizer list is extensive with the wings--fried, honey, hot, and teriyaki being especially popular. For vegetarians, Chan's offers several entrees listed on the front page of the menu. For dinner, the options seem endless. The Triple Delight with chicken, roast pork, large shrimp, and vegetables is served with steamed rice and is superb. There is plenty to take home. The lo mein noodle's texture is firm and enjoyable with any meat on the menu. Dishes can be served hot and spicy of so desired. Children can be treated to their own special menu of fried chicken or fried shrimp with either French fries or roast pork fried rice. the American dinner option consists of the same in a larger portion.

Chan's is moderately priced and accepts all major credit cards. A take out menu is available.Hours are from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays, and 12 noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Both lunch and dinner at Chan's are good values. If you are a Chinese food lover, live in the neighborhood, or are trying Chinese cuisine for the first time, Chan's is definitely where you would like to dine.
