CD review: 'We Are One' by Stephen Jerome Ferguson

"I am dedicated to providing music that touches your mind, body and spirit. A commitment to music as an art form is my one and only rule." – Stephen Jerome Ferguson

When Stephen Jerome Ferguson contacted me for a potential review of his album, titled "We Are One," I felt instantly drawn towards his unassuming approach. And upon hearing the first song on his Reverbnation profile, I knew there was something definitely worth paying attention to. And I am glad that I took on the assignment.

If you are looking for relaxing music, "We Are One" is the album for you. From start to finish, Ferguson's 12-track opus features a unique blend of smooth jazz and neo-soul that will tingle your ears and tickle your fancy. Each song embodies a specific mood that can be enjoyed separately from the rest or as a whole. For example, you may find yourself listening to the dreamy "Adam's Eve" and the enticing "Celebrate" in the middle of the night, while "Close Your Eyes" and "Day Break" will probably help you find artistic inspiration early in the morning.

And "The Four Elements" and "Yesterday's Love" may sound familiar to some, due to its veiled references to Mike Oldfield, the British master of experimental music.

"We Are One" is a gem of an album. A multi-layered album that deserves to be at the top of the charts for its creativity and the sheer smoothness of its instrumentation. Ferguson is a very talented artist who knows how to entice the listener and leave them wanting for more!
