“Three Step System” is the latest release from Orlando based singer/songwriter JANANI. Janani Vaidyanathan (JANANI) has a powerful, soulful vocal style that easily draws a listener into her songs. Her strong voice takes lyrical delivery beyond heartfelt to a more character driven place conveying toughness, anger, bitterness, passion and a host of other feelings erupting from her songs.
The title track opens up the EP with a smooth flowing solid bass groove and mixed rhythms, including a short jazzy interlude and a blazing guitar solo all capped off by JANANI’s velvety vocal. “Drown Me Out” features a dark steady rhythm and a silky, sultry vocal as she sings “Not even love can stop me/from the pain of losing/hope and God knows it’s insane.”
Songs don’t get much catchier than “Where Was I.” JANANI’s spunky vocals are full of attitude as they cascade over a steady walking blues rhythm as she sings “Yes, I’m sorry that you’re mean/I can’t sit here any longer while you mock my every word.” The bonus track, “Hey! Mister!,” features a more demure lead vocal threading through varied rhythms and an exotic sound.
Of the four songs on the EP, three of them were produced by Brett Hestla. Hestla not only produced and recorded those three songs, but also co-wrote two of them and played most of the instruments on them. The fourth song is an older one produced by Jeremy Birdsall at Kavode Studios. Between the two producers, the songs are very different, not only in production styles, but musical styles as well as the strength and confidence shown in JANANI’s vocals on the newer songs.
“Three Step System” is a terrific tool for introducing new fans to JANANI’s music. The quality songs will certainly hook listeners and have them clamoring for more. The alternative rock EP is available on iTunes and at JANANI’s merch store. Music fans can follow JANANI on Facebook, Reverbnation, You Tube and Twitter. Fans can also join her street team on Facebook and Twitter.
JANANI’s EP release show for “Three Step System” is April 26 at West End Live. Also on the bill are Always Falling Up, Autumn Empire, Darte and Shout London.
