Back from the studio Halestorm will release their latest EP, ReAniMate 2.0: The CoVeRs eP, on October 15. This release follows the popular 2011’s ReAniMate: The CoVeRs eP. Halestorm dug through boxes of albums to pull up these tracks to redo. It could even be said it could have been pulled for an old K-Tel Record. Well, except for the Judas Priest cover "Dissident Aggressor" which was a nice opener to the latest CD.
It was nice to see a wide-variety of genres in this release. It shows their ability to reach out to other avenues and to show what they are capable of doing. On the other hand, if you are a die-hard rocker for Halestorm you may be a bit disappointed. Where is all the heaviness in this release? It may leave you asking yourself, "why these songs?" Would love to been able to hear some old Black Sabbath or ever some Blue Oyster Cult remakes, of even a Van Halen. Maybe we'll see something in that genre on the 2.5 or 3.0 release.
“Like our first ReAniMate EP, the songs included here are a collection of both our favorite songs and songs to challenge ourselves,” Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale said. “We decided to go more ‘bare bones’ with this EP, meaning minimal production with live, gritty performances. We recorded this EP the week of the Grammys, so the excitement and debauchery you hear through your speakers is very real. We hope all our fans have as much fun with ReAniMate: 2.0 as we did!”
This is still a nice release that Halestorm put out as a covers CD, please don't get me wrong. It does show a positive and does give Lzzy the opportunity to shine in a few songs, such as the "Gold dust Woman" - cover by Fleetwood Mac.
