Unlike TV 's American Bandstands producer Dick Clark who died of a heart attack after strugling from a stroke as normal aging men do, with his second wife and children from a previous marriage at his side in 2012 Dick Clark died when he was 82.
82 year old Casey Kasem, who's legendary history as the voice and face of The American Top 40 Countdown, until 2009, has had recently a different life fate. Kasem is currently suffering from Lewy Body Disease, a form of dementia that is similar to Parkinson's Disease, and can barely talk.
A far cry from the husky strong voiced, dark haired radio legend his fans grew up to love for over 4 decades. Recently back in December of 2013, on CNNs Pierce Morgan Live, Casey's two children Kerri Kasem and Mike Kasem, his adult son and daughter spoke publicly with Piers Morgan about their struggle with Casey's second wife, Jean Kasem, over visiting rights to see their dad.
This week Kasem was confirmed as missing on May 12. At the same time, a judge ruled Monday that his daughter Kerri Kasem had began seeking temporary conservatorship over her father. Placing a greater strain the estrangement on the two emotionaly distraught children. Who believed that Casey’s wife, Jean Kasem, moved the 82-year old former DJ, jeopardizing his well being, as well as his health and safety.
During the conservatorship hearing, Jean Kasem's lawyer claimed no knowlege of his whereabouts. But Kerri told a California judge and various media outlets that wife Jean Kasem, fled the state with her husband Casey, in an attempt to avoid a Judge’s ruling about who would be Casey’s new conservator.
Appearing now sadly to have been kidnapped by his own wife while he suffers from advanced dementia, according to Kasem’s daughter, Kerri Kasem. To prove her sincerity regarding her intentions, Kerri said the rest of the family is prepared to give up any rights to Casey’s estate, money, or house, if Jean,“would just give our father back.” Pointing out that it is not right for someone suffering from this condition to be frequently moved around, because that can cause confusion and mental limitations to worsen.
Luckily Casey Kasem, has been found today according to reports, Casey Kasem was found in Washington just hours after Kerri Kasem was able to officially file a missing persons report, after hearing the news, Kerri Kasem released the following statement to media outlets, ”We are grateful to the local authorities for finding my Dad. We are one step closer to bringing him home.”
His daughter Kerri said Casey always loved to have gatherings. With Lebanese food being served and playing cards and while having family time. Which was so important to him, unlike in recent years seeing him, we having so very little time with him. Loosing the person that they most love most on earth, seeing that they're sick, while knowing he want to see you. But thanks to his wife only getting 20 minutes with him before he's being ripped away by an armed guard and having them torn you away.
But that's the reality that elder abuse which happens in many different ways, and is a growing epidemic in many families through out our country. Millions of seniors suffer from dementia in our country, from some form of abuse.
We all hope that Casey Kasem will be recovered quickly and safely. And Remember Casey, “Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the Stars.”
