Jackson Brodie (Jason Isaacs) is an ex-cop from Edinburgh who has a big heart. He's now a private detective who will help anyone in need. This is where he has a problem. You see Brodie has a hard time paying his bills. The people who come to him sometimes just have a hard luck story but not enough money to properly pay him for the work he does. He feels for the people who are in need. Unfortunately this doesn't help Brodie but he makes do.

Jackson Brodie's personal life has many more problems other than paying the bills. He takes grief from his ex-wife, his ex-girlfriend, his daughter, and his bookkeeper. The only woman in his life that doesn't give him a hard time is a former colleague on the police force. As a matter of fact she is his only friend from the police force. Jackson Brodie is a character that you really want to root for, to see him do well and overcome all that goes wrong.

'Case Histories' is filmed on location in Scotland and the scenery and background makes this a very enjoyable show. It is always nice when a show can give you the actual scenes that the story line is undertaking.

Acorn has once again brought us one of the best series coming from the BBC. The DVD is of the highest quality with the sights and sounds that makes this one of the best shows around. This DVD is to be released on July 15, 2014.
