Captain Marvel #1

Ms. Marvel, Warbird, Binary, and Captain Marvel are all names Carol Danvers has gone by. She was created by Roy Thomas and Gene Colan. She made her 1st appearance in Marvel Super-Heroes #13 in March 1968. At the time she didn't have powers and was a member of the United States Air Force. She debuted as Ms. Marvel in Ms. Marvel #1 in 1977. She got her powers after being a an explosion of a Kree device. In Ms. Marvel we find out she got her super human powers during the explosion when her genetic structure meld with Captain Marvel's. Her super powers are super human strength, flight, and endurance.
2014 comes with a new Captain Marvel from Marvel NOW! Published March 12th, written by Kelly Sue Deconnick and drawn by David Lopez Lopez. We start the comic off with seeing Captain Marvel and her team on Maniaciand Outpost. This was a little confusing to me, someone who has never read Captain Marvel or Ms. Marvel. Then we go to six weeks before and we get a better understanding of who Carol Danvers is. We see where she lives and who she works with. We also see that she has a hidden relationship with James Rhodes, aka Rhody the Iron Patriot. She is then told by Iron Man that they need someone to go help the Guardians of the Galaxy in outer space. I like that we get to see Carol struggle with her identity and make the choice to leave Earth to help and find herself. And that's where they leave us hanging at wanting more. I thought it was a great intro into the comic and it did leaving me wanting more. The art was bright and amazing and the Star Wars references were awesome. I'm looking forward to reading more and seeing where Captain Marvel finds herself next.
