As we all know, sometimes you turn up the radio here in Syracuse, hear what’s on and turn the station. Chipster, fast becoming one of my favorite PR agencies recently sent me the new CD by Candlelight Red to have a listen and review. Returning to that opening sentence now, this band is not one of those bands you flip the channel on, I turned it up.

One of the first things to jump out at me as I listened to the CD is talent and songs. All the songs kick ass really. The vocals of Ryan Hoke are on the money with Jamie laying out the perfect harmonies blended in. The songs all tell a story, which is refreshing to hear with all the screaming, senseless mud that is so prevalent lately. Not Candlelight Red, the songs make sense, are compact enough to not drag on for no reason, and feature tempo changes, quick bridges that show off the bands considerable skills, and chorus lines that hook you and won’t let you go. One of those bands that before you know what hit you, track seven “Scream” is finishing up and the riffs off “Medicated” start to shake the speakers. I resisted the urge to go back to hear these killer tunes, not wanting to miss the tracks to come. I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to listen to an entire new album and not want to hit the ‘skip’ button as I shake my head. Candlelight Red hooked me and never let go. A bonus at the end of this CD, the one that had me going, “Uh-oh…” was the remade version of “She’s Got the Look” made famous by Roxette back in the 80’s. No worries, it actually is a cool remake, and I am no fan of remade songs as a rule. This is one of those rare exceptions.
Melodic metal with power to take the world away for a spell with a blend of high energy riffs and on the edge vocals to keep you there, wanting more. Hailing from Williamsport, PA. Imagen Records have offered up a gem.
