Mr. David Miscavige, ecclesiastical leader of Scientology, has been on a mission to inundate the world with, and establish Advanced Organizations on every continent.
In a January 21, 2013 Examiner article "Scientology Buildings Crumbling in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver", we reviewed the sad state of Scientology Churches in Canada - - "Scientology is notorious for buying old buildings needing renovations and for harassing members to provide the millions needed to begin construction."
"Sources from across Canada say the church buildings are literally crumbling to the ground. Our harsh winters blow moisture onto the buildings and, when it freezes, the water expands and breaks loose fascia rock and bricks onto the sidewalk below."
"Membership is so low at many of the new, fancy “Ideal org” churches around the globe that only a handful of staff members are usually sitting around in boredom, stressed out about the next Thursday 2:00 p.m. deadline when staff production stats must be sent to the mother church."
Meanwhile, the self-appointed Scientology dictator, David Miscavige, lives in luxury with a huge mansion at Scientology headquarters, a fleet of personal cars and motorcycles, and a personal chef. A tailor makes all his suits at $5,000 apiece, with $500 Egyptian cotton shirts.
“Since assuming his leadership position, Miscavige has been faced with press accounts alleging illegal and unethical practices, both personally and through his organizational management. These include reports of forced separation of family members, coercive fundraising practices, harassment of journalists and church critics, and humiliation of church staff members, including physical assaults upon them by Miscavige. Miscavige and church spokespersons consistently deny these charges, often raising counter-charges that attack the credibility of the journalists and their sources.”
Shocking testimony of Miscavige crimes, including DEBBIE COOK: "We were made to do these confessions...one time in front of 100 people, yelling at you. I was put in a trash can, cold water poured over me, slapped. One time it went on for 12 hours...There were times I was accused of being a homosexual, a lesbian..."
A “Scientology Cult” website: “Discover the incredible story behind the subversion of Scientology by a self-appointed dictator, Dave Miscavige”:
At last Saturday’s grand opening of a Scientology Ideal ORG church in Cambridge, Ontario, people were bused in from far and wide, including some USA licence plates pulling in. Angela Ilasi, a church spokesperson, explained “We needed to expand somewhere and Cambridge is a beautiful city.”
However, with the last census that counted religious affiliation, found only 1,525 people in all of Canada who said they were Scientologists in 2001- - leaving one to wonder how David Miscavige intends to not only fill the new Cambridge church, but now a new facility consisting of five separate buildings totaling 159,400 square feet on 190 acres.
Many new scientology facilities sit near empty, including the recent new building in Quebec City and the new building in Montreal - - idle, waiting for funds to renovate.
Scientology in Canada does not have status as a registered charity, nor is it recognized as a religion, but it is exempt from paying property tax in the Province of Ontario to date, although this may be challenged in the near future.
Religious scholars Douglas E. Cowan and David G. Bromley stated in a 2006 publication that "Scientology has yet to receive official recognition as a religion in Canada".
