Campeche, MX Part II
Now that ya’ll know how to get here and are curious about monkeys, (no not this time), after reading part I you are ready to head to the Hacienda Uayamon. A destination resort and a must see if traveling to this part of the country.
Originally built in the 1700s this place will amaze even the well -traveled. This hacienda has transformed into a 12 suite luxurious escape. Mexican and Mayan architecture mix new with old and as you can see is quite amazing. Walking in you feel a sense of grandeur. The crisp, green grass on the large front lawn will lead you to the enormous stone staircase. On your left are the ruins of century-old smokestacks that are now the relaxing spa. Looking right the ginormous tree is sky high and branches out shading a nice seating area to sit and take it all in. Walking up to the pool you will be impressed that while still “outside” it is surrounded by original walls that are gracefully and continuously aging. If you can get yourself away from the pool take the dirt path back to your suite. Each suite is unique. Most are 2 to a building with 1 master suite that used to be an old hospital. One suite has a cave in the backyard and all the creatures that come with it! Others have outdoor patios and Jacuzzis to get you in the mood. Looking ancient from the outside the interiors have been updated and include AC, flat screen televisions, ihome docks and bathrooms bigger than anyone is used to. There are hammocks in each suite and beautiful dark wood trim that entice you to stay inside…but don’t! Walking from the suites back to the common areas you will pass by a long standing church, or what’s left of it. The quietness of this place will bring you an extreme sense of relaxation and importance that most people have yet to feel anywhere in this world. The plants are abundant and bigger than you are used to seeing. The sky is visible but greatly shaded from the hot sun and trust me you have never seen so many stars.
As impressive as the Hacienda is so is the service. Here compared to other places in this area most of the staff speaks English but only take major credit cards or pesos. Be sure to take advantage of the bicycles and explore, eat in the restaurant or lounge and get room service by the pool. They also have childcare and laundry services available.
The Hacienda Uayamon’s unique history and beauty is exactly what was needed as the last destination on this trip to Campeche, Mexico. Attractive grounds and striking architecture keep the imagination wondering what else there will be. Silent but attentive service will keep you at ease and make you never want to leave!
