Bunny Rugs set to release new album "Time"

William “Bunny Rugs” Clark, the man known as the “golden voice” of reggae, is putting the finishing touches on his latest solo project “Time.” Rugs is probably best known as the distinctive voice of super group Third World, one of the longest running reggae bands of all time, having released over 23 albums and recipient of numerous music awards. Rugs himself has released four solo albums to critical acclaim. A native of Manchester, Jamaica he migrated to New York City in 1968, where he quickly landed various gigs in the city and soon developed a following in the reggae community. He was invited to join the famous Inner Circle band in 1972 and served as the band’s lead vocalist for two years. He joined Third World in 1976 on the encouragement of long time friend and former Inner Circle band member Stephen “Cat” Coore. The musical chemistry between Rugs and the other members of the band was clearly evident, giving rise to the unmistakable “Third World sound.” That signature sound has captured the imagination of legions of fans worldwide, transcending racial, cultural and national boundaries.

Bunny Rugs ardently subscribes to the view that “a man who has no respect for time has no respect for himself.” Hence the album title “Time.” The artist sees his solo projects as an “extension of his persona”, allowing him to explore issues and topics that are close to his heart, from a perspective that is uniquely Bunny Rugs. Record Label Raw Edge Productions, has released three singles from the album to provide fans with a sample of the songs and to whet their appetites for more.

“ Love Is Blind” a song about a woman heartbreaker, set against the backdrop of the pulsating “tune in” rhythm created by famed producers Sly and Robbie, speaks eloquently of the pitfalls of blind love. The hypnotic one-drop beat creates an irresistible desire on the part of the listener to get up and dance. Rugs’ commanding vocal delivery blends perfectly with the tempo, creating a memorable listening experience. Produced by Rugs and the rhythm twins Sly and Robbie.

“ Just Can’t Deny” is a beautiful ”lovers rock” which speaks of the joys of love. The song is written by Richard Bell of “Star Trail Records” and produced by Rugs in association with famed producer and saxophonist Dean Fraser. The silky rhythm provides the perfect foil for the brilliant vocals supplied by Rugs. His sensitive performance adds the final ingredient that is sure to send this single deep into the charts.

“Kurfew” serves as a reminder of Rug’s commitment to the issues of social justice and equality. The song addresses the turmoil of the 2010 uprising in Kingston, Jamaica that attracted international attention. Rugs makes a passionate plea to citizens as he chants” Kurfew, soldier pon the corner, be on the alert keep the children inside.” The track is a true reflection of the artist’s desire for an end to civil unrest worldwide. The hard driving rhythm and electrifying vocals create a compelling message. Produced by ace songwriter/producer Mikie Bennet and Rugs, the single packs a serious punch and is currently enjoying heavy rotation in the European market.

Based on the three singles previewed, it is evident that William“ Bunny Rugs” Clark has delivered another high quality musical offering. The “golden voice” has not disappointed. The release of the album will be highly anticipated. Bunny Rugs, excerpts from the album “Time”; the EP, will be available on global digital platforms on May 3, 2011. The full album is scheduled for release in summer 2011.
