Bru's Classic Pick Of February 2013: "Maniac Cop"

Pardon me for taking so long to provide my readers with a classic pick for February 2013. Making the move to Asia, shifted my schedule around quite a bit. With that said, my pick is the 1988 Bruce Campbell featured film, "Maniac Cop."

80's B-Horror perfection, "Maniac Cop" delivers a super nostalgic slasher with the help of an eerie score, bad ass tough man one liners and a quality revenge storyline. Written by Larry Cohen (Phone Booth, Captivity) "Maniac Cop" holds up pretty well throughout the past 25 years.

Although Bruce Campbell was the main lure for this film, I thought Tom Atkins (My Bloody Valentine) and his character of Frank McCrae was the highlighted actor. I mean he was made for films just like this, it's a shame he didn't do anymore around that time period.

As my readers know, I always love taking a trip down memory lane, especially these films from the 80s and "Maniac Cop" is no different. The kills could have been sequenced so much better and of course the ending was down right frustrating, but all in all this is a very good blast from the past slasher and worthy of a re-watch, or if you haven't seen it yet, checking it out for the first time. You won't be blown away, but you won't be disappointed either. Like I said B-Horror perfection.
