At the beginning of the month you were introduced to Brooklyn Grooming. This east coast outfit makes a bevy of men’s grooming products mostly for the various hairs that have sprung forth from our bodies. For this particular review, it’ll be their beard oils up for scrutiny.
Each of these oils contain some combination of Sesame, Hempseed, Jojoba, and Argan oils, except the Fort Greene which is comprised of Castor, Avocado, Sesame, and Kukui Nut oils. Any one of these oils would make a fine beard oil, but Brooklyn Grooming ambitiously mixes these nutritive carrier oils in order to make a product that is both light and beneficial to your beard. Think of it as a spa treatment for your facial hair.
Since the great majority of the beard oils tested in this series do roughly the same thing (soften, detangle and make manageable), differentiating one from another, especially after using a wide variety of them on a daily basis for 2 months, really comes down to fragrance and the incorporation of special, exotic, easy to absorb oils like that of the Kukui Nut. It is this non comedogenic oil that helps set beard oils from Brooklyn Grooming apart from the rest of the crowd. Not only is this oil great for taming the wild hairs of the beard, it is also an excellent moisturizer for the skin and has been used for generations in Hawai’i for soothing sunburned skin.
If I had to choose a favorite, it would be the Williamsburg due mostly to its cedar and ylang ylang notes. It has a nice mix of sharp and clean from the cedar, and light and refreshing from the ylang ylang. It lands nicely in the androgynous zone of my olfactory.
Personal inclinations aside, any one of these beard oils will work just fine as a delicate yet protective addition to your beard. Sorting out which one is right for you may take a little trial and error. I like my fragrances light, warm, and inviting, while I’m sure there’s plenty of you out there that like them dark, moody, and brooding. Ultimately, it is up to you. I’m just here to help guide you to the product promised land, it’s up to you to enter or not. If you want to try some Brooklyn Grooming beard oil for yourself click here.
**Full disclosure: This beard oil was provided at no cost for the purpose of testing/reviewing, to think otherwise would be, how you say, delusional.
