Broken Light: 'The Spring Tide' (2012)

"The Spring Tide" by Broken Light is a dreamy shoegaze Indie Pop album.

The opening track cued on their Bandcamp page is "Dawn of Nothing". This is kind of a hyper version of shoegaze (if there can be such a thing), and it was a bit too busy for me. Lots of wet electric lead lines pop up all over this piece. Listening to the rest of the record this sound is kind of in the minority, I think they just cued it because they thought the most upbeat single-ish track would be most digestible.

I like Broken Light in their lighter more introspective incarnations, such as "Oceans Daughter"... a sprawling 8 minute long song that evokes a trance-like state for the listener that you can really get lost in... this is personally my favorite track as I enjoy slow builds, and the chorus even lyrically seems to encourage freedom and relaxation in it's message. Also Magnetic North is a slightly more busy take on their dreamy sound, but sounds like just the right mix- not too busy, not too boring.

Overall the sound of the album is a very listenable and enjoyable, and the distant atmospheres Broken Light creates are perfect for meditation and general unwinding at the end of a long day.
