Brockton Villa Restaurant, the Jewel of La Jolla

Nestled in the hillside overlooking La Jolla Cove, Brockton Villa Restaurant is a rare gem. In a neighborhood where exquisite fare and breathtaking views are the norm, this glorious patio restaurant stands out. Brockton Villa is not a traditional bar in the sense that it is not loud and full of twenty-somethings spilling and hitting on one another.  This is just one of many things to love about the place.

Another selling point is the menu; the wholly un-bar-like menu.  From Crab Ipanema to Carne Asada Benedict, Brockton Villa's breakfast is well worth a modest early morning commute and parking spot search.  Seared Ahi Salad, Steamed Muscles and Clams; stay for lunch since you won't want to leave anyway, just make sure you keep ordering. Brockton's tables are prime real estate.

If you haven't heard of Brockton Villa's World Famous Coast Toast, you must consider expanding your social circle and culinary sphere.  Once you try the Coast Toast, you will be hard pressed to order anything else, as you will find every meal that does not include it a disappointment.

Then there is this ridiculous view. Brockton Villa's geographically brilliant patio offers guests a pelican's eye view of this incredible bit of Pacific paradise. The perfect spot for a romantic, though innocuous lunch date, be prepared to have your new acquaintance fall in love with you. The view, food, service and setting are the proper combination of wonderful. It is understandable if Brockton Villa becomes your special place.

Gaze with envy at nature's most contented family of seals lounging in sun drenched splendor all over the rocks below. Be contented yourself as you realize they are envious that you are doing the same thing but with a Tangerine Mimosa in your hand.

Develop a kinship with the couple at the next table when you discover they are engaged in a similar discussion as to whether the reoccurring flash of gold between the swells is, or is not, a Hypsypops rubicundus (see Garibaldi. and it was, I don't care what you say).

As mentioned, Brockton Villa does not contain a booze soaked bar, though does offer Bloody Marys, Margaritas, Mimosas, a full wine list, and beer selection, including Stone and Karl Strauss.  Alcohol is available after 11am, and during the winter, Brockton Villa closes at 3pm.  You will be sad when it's time to go, but this gives you plenty of time to stroll the cove, and get your fill of splendor to tide you over until your inevitable return.
