Break free to self reliance with Calvin Helin's new book on economic dependency

Just released by Ravencrest Publishing in January 2011, Calvin Helin's newest book, The Economic Dependency Trap Breaking Free to Self-Reliance is an interesting exploration of what is called "America's dirty little secret:  Economic dependency."  You can pick up your copy at St. Louis area Borders stores.

Calvin is a Native American author who shares a plan for breaking the poverty cycle.  Calvin Helin knows first hand what it is like to be in the cycle of poverty.  Now an attorney, entrepreneur and author of Dances with Dependency, Helin has seen life from many angles.  He was raised in a poor Native American village where he experienced first-hand the effects of economic dependency.  He now wants to expose its reality and reverse it.

Calvin Helin believes that financial handouts like welfare checks and government bailouts instill a false sense of entitlement and breed attitudes like victim thinking, lack of confidence, learned helplessness and inability to cope with adversity.  It creates the absence of self-responsibility and accountability.  These mindsets are then passed from generation to generation  He believes that this kind of thinking produces an attitude similar to middle-class parents who lavish newfound wealth on their children, which he says can create:

undisciplined younger generation lacking the skills and the desire to become responsible adults.

In his latest book, he presents solutions for individuals, educators, policymakers and community organizers in everyday situations to help them break free from this economic trap.  The 308-page book weaves the feel of the Native American spirit throughout each chapter with pictures, poems and 20 Declarations of Undependence throughout.  He addresses concrete realistic solutions as well as attitude changes that need to occur to reach success.  It is a thought-provoking and hopefully life changing read.
