Brand new Brooklyn pizza place a must-try

Within the last few weeks, brand new pizza joint Piz-zetta has opened its doors. It's on Livingston Street, between Court Street and Boerum Place in the Brooklyn Heights/Cobble Hill/Downtown Brooklyn area. The eatery has given Livingston Street some much-needed sparkle, its neon sign shines brighter than any on the street and bright red lights flash "OPEN" at all hours (yes, even when it's not open).

The owners are charming, and will jump at the chance to tell a customer about their humble beginnings in the pizza business Spoiler alert: They're brothers who worked in a pizzeria as teenagers. They each pursued a different career path, but both ended up coming back to pizza.

Piz-zetta offers typical pizza place fare: pizza, appetizers (meatballs and garlic knots, for example), salads, pasta, heroes, calzones, and rolls. The variety within each category is great; if you like bread and marinara sauce, there is definitely something here for you.

The pizzas are large, with the perfect ratio of cheese to sauce, and the chefs do not skimp on toppings. The Vegetarian Pizza, for example, has so much spinach, broccoli and mushrooms that the cheese can barely be seen. And fear not, all you carnivores, the same can be said for the Chicken Parm Pizza.

However, if you're a dessert lover, this is not the place for you. Unfortunately, Piz-zetta does not offer anything to satisfy a hungry customer's sweet tooth.

Piz-zetta also offers "pizzettas," which it places on the menu under "specialty pizzas." If it sounds intriguing, a quick Google search and/or an Italian language lesson can tell you a pizzetta is nothing more than a small pizza. That being said, if it's half as delicious as its bigger counterpart, go for it.

If you're often in the area, you'll know it had a desperate need for a good pizza place. This need has now been fulfilled. Piz-zetta's prices are relatively high, ranging all the way up to $26 for one pie (yikes!).

However, in honor of its grand opening, the owners are offering 25 percent off pizza, 20 percent off pasta, and 15 percent off heroes until March 15, 2013. Hurry and get some delicious, discounted pie!
