Book review: 'Voice from the Soul of Trees' by Celestine McMullen Allen

The best poets in history have one thing in common. They have signed an invisible contract with themselves, a contract where honesty is a prerequisite and fear, the essential tool to master. As a result, the words they choose to share with the world often transcend generations.

There was a time when spiritual poetry was an art form in itself. Individuals like Khalil Gibran and Alphonse de Lamartine penned pieces that delved into the inner workings of the human mind and challenged man’s limited understanding. Following this tradition, author Celestine McMullen Allen has decided to lend new credibility to the genre.    
 
“Voice from the Soul of Trees” is based on the premise that we are One with the world and the tree of life. A tree that is deeply rooted in our natural existences and whose branches extend beyond blood ties.

In her book, McMullen Allen asks the reader to look beyond the obvious question of their purpose, while teaching them to acknowledge their inner beauty — something very akin to Socrates’ famous “Know Thyself.” Conscious of her purpose, she offers delightful and uplifting pearls of wisdom to those willing to catch them. And she does it in a way that is both very approachable and humble, and really tells a lot about her talent as a writer.

Capable of capturing, molding, and disseminating the mysteries of life

That which has molded me and which has made me cry, sigh, and shout with glee

“Voice from the Soul of Trees” is a moving invitation to celebrate our own essence, “Release the chains that bind” (“Life and Hope,” p.56), and embrace the beauty of God that pervades every nook and cranny of this universe.
