Sky Jumpers by Peggy Eddleman is the first book in a series for middle school students. The novel's main setting is the town of White Rock in post World War III world in which technology has to be reinvented after green bombs destroyed all infrastructure and left behind deadly bomb's breath. Because of this, White Rock values inventing and requires all of its residents to invent new things.
Sky Jumpers is well paced read with quite a bit of twists ad action to keep it interesting as well as in depth character development. Many middle school students are likely to be able to relate to the main character and/or one of her friends, which can make it an interesting and inspiring read. In particular, it inspires readers to use their strengths and what difference of one, as Hope and her town find that while she is a poor inventor, using her strengths saved the town and helps continue/further their success.
