Book review of Elise Primavera's 'Louise the Big Cheese and the La Di Da Shoes'

Louise Cheese is back, and she still wants to be a big cheese. Knowing that shoes make the girl, she has her heart set on a pair of black patent leather pumps in her sister's closet. They even have sparkles on the toes. Unfortunately, Penelope is not willing to share. When Louise's mom announces it's time to get her some new shoes, Louise is thrilled because she believes that a pair of la-di-da shoes will be just the thing. Finally she'll be able to ditch the boring brown squeaky shoes she has to wear every day. Finally all the kids will think that she is a big cheese who lives in a mansion, wears golden underwear, and even has ponies. She'll be a really big cheese.

Unfortunately, Louise's mom has a strong practical streak, and they arrive home from the store with yet another boring brown pair of practical shoes. It gets worse when Fern appears at school the next day wearing the very patent leather black shoes with sparkling toes that Louise had her heart set on. Fern's story of picking up her shoes while at a fashion shoe in Paris rubs Louise the wrong way, and by the end of the day, the teacher has put the girls in separate corners because they can't get along. Will Louise be willing to help a friend in need when Fern's new shoes aren't all they first appeared to be?
