A scandalous tale in the heart of the ton!

Meet Sir James Devlin- Retired Naval Man, Rake, and Pirate. Current Profession: Lady Emma Brook’s fiancé and lapdog.

Meet Lady Caroline Carew aka Susanna Burney- Retired Barmaid, Shop Assistant, and Wife. Current Profession: Society Heartbreaker and the newest toast of London.

Susanna is on the last job she’ll ever need; all she has to do is separate the Duke and Duchess of Alton’s son Fitz from his potential bride-to-be. Just as she is engaging her charms on the young Marquess, she comes face to face with a man she never expected to see again, Sir Devlin.

James knows what it means to be penniless. He doesn’t want to be that way any longer striving for a match with Lady Emma Brook and encouraging his sister, Chessie, to pursue her infatuation with the Duke of Alton’s heir. The arrival of Susanna throws him for a loop, as he must come to turns with his former wife who, by all appearances seems to be just as scheming for a financial match as he is.

Determined to thwart each other in their goals, James and Susanna try hard to deny the passion that still exists between them. The wounds of the past cut deep and there are many things that James doesn’t know; including the fact that Susanna is not really a scheming masquerader, but a heartbreaker for hire.

James and Susanna are the epitome of a love/hate relationship. The sins of their pasts are extremely heartbreaking and neither is really willing to admit their true feelings. James is unrepentant in his condemnation, but still desire’s his wife more than any other woman. Susanna doesn’t want to desire James, and would rather have his hatred. She holds their previous relationship over him as threat to stay his diabolic schemes when in reality their sparing deters them from other looming threats. It was difficult to believe that these two could resolve their issues and reunite with so many secrets twirling around them.

Notorious is the fourth book in Nicola Cornick’s Scandalous Women of the Ton series. The story is indeed a good one, and readers who have read the previous books will enjoy seeing some of their favorite characters from the past. The plot is thick and the villains are wicked, as Nicola knows how to write villains with great aplomb.  All-in-all a great read for anyone who loves a good story about love gone horribly wrong, only to be redeemed.

The book released for sale on July 26thand is available in local stores including Barnes and Noble, available online from Walmart, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other retailers. For more information on Nicola’s other books in the series visit her website at www.nicolacornick.com
