Most devotionals follow the same structure.
- Each day (page) starts with a quote from the Bible
- Followed by the author’s insight(s) on that verse. In most cases the message is designed to uplift and/or inspire.
- The endings vary. Some authors end with a prayer or recommended reading while others end with a quote or a thought provoking question.
John MacArthur’s devotional, Moments of Truth, is a refreshing change from the “usual”. While each page does begin with a verse from the Scriptures, the similarity ends there. Each topic verse, is followed by a passage taken from some of MacArthur's previously published books. His devotions are not designed to make your spirit take off in flight. They are not designed to make you “feel good.” Some of MacArthur’s messages may even have the opposite effect. They force you to take a look at yourself, to assess some of your own motives and conduct. The devotional delves into some basic Biblical truths which are often overlooked and the truth doesn’t always “feel good.” Sometimes it hurts.
Each devotion ends with a question designed to make you dig a little deeper.
