Kenny Rogers’ newest memoir “Luck or Something Like It” is an authentic account of his illustrious music career, which spans over 50 years, as well as the highs and lows in his personal life (including his previous marriages). Most impressive about this book is the inclusion of song lyrics and choruses from some of Kenny’s best-loved classics, including his signature tunes “Lady” and “The Gambler.”
He talks about his relationship with several of country music’s finest singers including Dolly Parton, the late Dottie West, as well as Lionel Richie, his friend Billy Dean (who joins him on his Christmas tours), Alison Krauss (who sang harmony on “Buy Me a Rose” and was a part of a tribute for Kenny where she and Dolly sang “Sweet Music Man”).
In return, Dolly Parton (who collaborated with Kenny on “Islands in the Stream”) shares her thoughts and feelings about the iconic country star as she perceived him over the years.
One of the most moving parts of his book is when he talks about his wife, Wanda, who is the mother of his twin boys. It includes several inspirational quotes from Wanda’s standpoint about him and their strong relationship.
The Grammy winning star also takes the time to thanks everybody from his tour manager and day-to-day management team and friends in the industry and fans (two of which have seen him perform live over 1,000 times) that made all of these achievements possible for him.
