Belly's going to be done with high school soon, but she won't be able to leave behind Cousins Beach. With Susannah's passing, the beach house is not the same. Belly might not even go this summer. But when Jeremiah calls asking for her help to find Conrad, she has to whether she wants to or not.
Jenny Han's It's Not Summer Without You is part two in the summer trilogy and reveals, for the first time, what Jeremiah is thinking. The story mostly moves forward instead of jumping back and forth between the past and the present, which allows for a nice flow. This story is about Belly, Jeremiah and Conrad. Everyone grieves the loss of a loved one in different ways and theirs is to save the beach house. But in the process of saving the beach house, they lose each other.
This is a different take on summer. How do you grieve in the sunshine? Han manages to add fun elements into whatever these crazy kids are up to, including studying with a reward system that involves an eating contest memory. We get to see more of Mr. Fisher, which is nice and there's also a shocking moment between two of the charcters, but you'll have to read to find out!
