Bonne Finken showed the crowd at Ingersoll Live on Saturday night why she was named Des Moines' "Best Local Musician" by Cityview and their readers earlier this year. Finken's shows have an electricity to them, and last night's show was no different. No one in the area right now can match her intensity on stage, and very few have the energy that she has. Finken flat out brings it live, and she leaves every ounce of energy on the stage.

Bonne Finken has always surrounded herself with talented musicians, and her current band is nearly the perfect mix to showcase her songs. Seth Hedquist can really tear it up on guitar—as evidenced by the band's rendition of Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love", which showcases not only his chops on the guitar, but Finken's vocal range. Jon Locker is not only a rock on bass, but he also recorded and produced many of the songs on Finken's stellar new album Fairytales/LoveAffairs and even co-wrote two of the songs. Russ Tomlinson is a whirlwind on the drums and, along with Christine Parmerlee, provides backing vocals. Pat Williams on turntables takes Finken's songs to the next level, and Michael Pfaff (Snacks/Dirty Little Rabbits) on keyboards and auxiliary percussion adds versatility, personality, and style.

In the end, though, it all comes back to Bonne Finken's incredible voice, talent, and heart. Finken's shy, quiet demeanor off stage is replaced by an explosion of sound and fury when the show begins. That explosion is what is winning her new fans at every show. It is what makes songs like "Step Back Baby", "Fall", and "I'mNotWaiting" from Finken's new album even better live, as the audience saw on Saturday, than they are recorded. Finken performed songs like "Possible Impossible", "Mysterious", and "No Street Name" from previous albums, but the focus last night was definitely on the new album. —And why not? The album has been added at radio stations all over the country, and it has all the elements necessary to make Finken Iowa's next big nationwide star.
