Bonefish Grill opened its new Troy location last weekend with a charity preview, and to the general public on Monday. The charity event, to benefit the North Woodward Community Foundation, raised almost $9,000.

The new Bonefish Grill features fresh wood-grilled fish and seafood, along with chicken and steak options. The inviting bar offers craft cocktails, craft beer, and a reasonably priced wine list including 30 choices by the glass. Service on our visit was exceptional, with a slew of managers and ‘chef coat’ waitstaff working the floor to make sure every guest had a memorable experience.

Let’s start with appetizers. We enjoyed the crowd pleasing Bang Bang Shrimp – crisp on the outside, tender on the inside, tossed in a spicy creamy sauce. I could eat these all day. In addition to an appetizer portion, Bang Bang Shrimp is available on tacos and a Po’ Boy sandwich.

We also sampled a plate of bacon wrapped sea scallops with a mango salsa. Layers of flavors, with perfectly cooked scallops and crispy bacon. Other apps include calamari, Ahi tuna sashimi, and Waygu beef and ginger dumplings—which I plan to try on my next visit.

For entrees, I loved the grilled Mahi-Mahi (Dorado), served with a warm mango salsa. The fish was slightly sweet, flavorful and again, perfectly cooked. My dining companion chose the Wild North Atlantic Haddock topped with feta and artichokes. Dusted with garlic crumbs then wood-grilled, and topped with a lemon basil butter sauce, the dish is served with garlic mashed potatoes. Great flavors and presentation. For a side dish, we sampled the pumpkin ravioli with brown butter and crispy sage, which takes this dish to the next level.

Other popular menu items include the Chilean Sea Bass and Cold Water Lobster Tails. On Tuesdays, Bonefish Grill features a lobstercentric ‘Tuesday Tales of Lobster’ menu, with low priced specials starting at $7.90. All fish entrees come with choice of four signature sauces—warm mango salsa, chimichurri, lemon butter, and pan Asian.

For dessert, we shared a slice of key lime pie – nice and tart, and the chocolate crème brulee drizzled with Grand Marnier. Rich, flavorful, almost like a fancy chocolate pudding for adults.
