Opened in spring 2009, Bombay Express is picking up its pace as an all-vegetarian Indian restaurant. Bombay Express cafe is conveniently located at the junction of Mowry Ave. and Blacow in Fremont, CA.

It has a casual vibe and very ornate furniture pieces. Place has decent interior with bright colors on the wall and ethnic wooden wall pieces. Indian music is played on Flat screen TV.

But the food got all the attention. In the owner’s [Mr. Balkar Tamber] words, “we believe in the quality and the freshness of the food, prepared here every day”. The restaurant has two main chefs: Iqbal Singh (north Indian chef) specializes in Punjabi cuisine with 8 years of experience, where as Silva (South Indian chef) specializes in Indo-Chinese and south Indian snacks, has 4 years experience.

Its menu consists of all vegetarian appetizers includes Veggie Samosa, Veggie wraps, Bhelpuri and Tandoori paneer tikka. Main course includes Mutter paneer, Saag paneer, Aloo gobhi etc. It also serves a variety of south Indian snacks and lip smacking desserts.

The outstanding items on the menu are:

Chef’s Special chaat: mouth watering, Hugh portion of mix chaat
Pav –Bhaji: super authentic taste
Bombay vada pav
Dosa: comes in many different varieties
Veg chowmein: Simply delicious

New on the menu: Paneer Lawabdaar – Mild cream based paneer (Indian cottage cheese) curry.

Combos are worth trying: Includes curry of your choice, dal, rice and fresh naan. Portions are generous. And is very reasonably priced, $5.99 for lunch & $7.99 for dinner.

They also serve Thalis, including 7-8 items for $6.99 every day.

For the sweet tooth, Gulab Jamun and Rasmalai are good but Mango Lassi is most desirable.

Good news for Indian sweet lovers, Coming soon: Fresh Indian Bengali sweets made by the chef from Haldiram/Bikanerwala.

Kids menu includes pizza, burger and fries too.

Food presentation grabs attention. Served in Square /rectangle white plates looks elegant. Place is neat and clean. Service is okay.

Over all Bombay Express is a decent place to eat good food at a very reasonable price.
