The move to The Treasure Valley has been very exciting. After reviewing restaurants and events in San Francisco for almost twenty years www.DiningDetectives.com it was time for a change. When we told people we were moving to Boise they all said the same things. “You’ll be disappointed with the food. It won’t be like San Francisco. Why are you moving to Iowa?” After just one month of limited dining around we agree that the volume of restaurants is not like San Francisco but have found some excellent cuisine and met chefs that are very proud of their food. Many Boise area restaurants like San Francisco feature local, sustainable and farm to table ingredients. We are in no way food snobs and generally prefer to write about the good but since dining out can be very expensive here are some first impressions.
We have had some good, bad and ugly dining experiences.
The Good
Lunch at Bleubird in Boise was excellent. Great sandwiches
Brunch at Red Feather in Boise was very good. Try their Spicy Bloody Mary
Dinner at Rendezvous in Eagle was excellent. Great Lamb Chops and Cabbage Rolls
Lunch at Dave’s BBQ. Right sized portions and reasonably priced

The Bad
Kona Grill…. weak appetizers but great late happy hour with half price drinks
The Ugly
Gino’s….We had dinner twice and both times someone in our party sent their entrée back. People love this place so perhaps we ordered poorly.
The Counter in the Village at Meridian. The white wine was warm and the fish sandwich was cold. Perhaps we should have had a burger and beer.
In general we were very pleased with what we tried and will write more comprehensive reviews in the future.
Do you have some favorites that we need to try?
