How does one accurately describe Portland's "very Thai" restaurant, Boda? Let's start with delicious, add some urban chic decor, original (delicious and affordable) menu options and end with amazing; served over sticky rice.
The praises can be heard from one end of the pennisula to the other about this hip spot. Formally Bangkok Thai, this Congress Street restaurant has been completely transformed. Offering a full bar with inspired cocktails and fantastic wines; Boda is a great way to start an evening out. The small plates and tapas encouraging sharing.
This is not your standard Thai food menu primarily made up of Pad Thai and curries. This menu features bold tapas ($3-$9), grill items and skewers ($3-$8) and entrees ($12-$19); anyone would be tempted to try some new flavors.
Starting with tapas; The Brussel Sprouts ($7) are fantastic to start and pair well with the Thai Sticky Rice Ball ($3). However, do not be intimidated by pronouncing the name, Miang Kum Som Oh ($5) is a light and almost bite size "salad" made with pummelo fruit, roasted coconut, shrimp, shallots and peanuts wrapped in betel leaves.
From the grill; vegetarians must order the Portabella or Tofu Skewers ($4) while your carnivorious friends enjoy Scallop wrapped in bacon skewers ($8) or Pork belly skewers ($5).
Boda is open until 1am and has off street parking (behind Joe's Smoke Shack); two things anyone would be hard pressed to find in Portland.
