Blue Ridge Brides is another book from the “Romancing America” series and contains three stories set in historic North Carolina. In 1650 Beth Colman sets out on a “Journey to Love” (by Lauralee Bliss) to discover what became of her grandparents and the other settlers of the Lost Colony of Roanoke. Will she discover the truth and what about her handsome but troubled guide John Harris?
Olin Orr trekked the “Corduroy Road to Love” (by Lynn A. Coleman) back home to Charlotte to work as a tinsmith in the building owned by Ida Mae McAuley. But shortly after his arrival mysterious things begin happening around Ida Mae’s store. Are they the result of his past or is something else going on?
Druise Fields is happily engaged to Gladdie Gordon and playing “The Music of Home” (by Tamela Hancock Murray) for her family and friends in Sunshine Holler. When the opportunity arises to tour the country with her music she takes it to earn money so she can marry. But what about Gladdie left behind?
I really liked this book! The stories within its pages were interesting and well written, and I learned some interesting things about the history of the state. My favorite story was probably “Journey to Love” because I learned so much about the early history of the state which I found fascinating.
I particularly liked how each story is a bit of a mystery. In “Journey” Beth is trying to discover what happened to the settlers of Roanoke. In “Corduroy” everyone wants to find out who has been attacking Ida Mae and why. While on the road thefts keep occurring in “Music.” I wanted to discover the truth just as much as the characters in each story.
Finding out the truth is a major theme in this book. In each of the stories there is a situation where people assume one thing about someone but one person disagrees and pursues the situation until they discover the truth.
On the whole this is an interesting book which gives an interesting history of the state. I give it four and a half out of five stars.
