With a unique spin on the typical high flying horror destination, Altitude is an elbow-room free fright-fest with a marginally standard supporting cast and a strong female lead. Substance-wise, Lowndes seems both trapped in the plane, and against a basic offering of stereotypical friends, but taking the terror to the next level, director Kaare Andrews and writer Paul A. Birkett expertly pulls the would-be tedious plot out of the negative nose-dive by placing their victims in a smaller plane – an idea that may have worked in other more robust budgeted films like Snakes on a Plane – adding not only a foreboding from above element, but also one from within the claustrophobic cabin.
The extras are a normal coach ticket, consisting of a director commentary, behind-the-scenes look and a pretty decent Green Storm featurette which focuses on the films special effects. So if you’re desperately seeking to gain membership to the Mile-Die Club, or you want a film that redefines the term “jump seat”, then Altitude is fasten-your-seatbelts fun in the fiendish skies.
