The great outdoors, check… a ridiculous yet improv-ready premise, check… a tailor-made tittered-at hobby, check… Steve Martin, check… but the birders three wander aimlessly down the path of “comedy your mom will love” rather than the scathing and blazing trails that led them to this point.
The disc extras are a fairly standard roster of species, from a Gag Reel which proves just how funny the three can be, to a respectable “Big Migration” featurette exploring Behind-The-Scenes moments with even more of the bumbling birders. A dozen or so Deleted Scenes also pad the nest.
So though what looks at first glance like the sighting of an Ivory Billed Woodpecker, as exciting and anticipated as any gut-buster, falls disappointingly flat upon further inspection as its three appealing leads turn a timid direction.
